Rock The Republic
Just a little iPhone shot to show you what I'm doing this weekend. I work for the Maroon Weekly now and I'll be at Rock the Republic, a music fest in Bryan, TX all weekend. If you're there, find me in my Maroon Weekly shirt and say hi! :)

It's Simple, Really
I'm back from my hiatus. :)
I've been realizing that it's the little things in life that matter.
I mean, I've always known that, you know? How many cliches tell us that, right?
But it hit me that I forgot that because of everything else that's been going on.
I resolved to be more happy during my hiatus. It's like that one Click Five song says -- There's always going to be something in your way, so what can you say? You're going to have a good day. (Those are totally not the right lyrics, I paraphrased. Deal.)
(Also, go watch the video that links to. They're awesome. You gave me music recs, now I'm giving you one. Also, they're cute. Enjoy. Thank me later.)
So, simple things. I've noticed it's these things that make me the happiest. Getting a job and making all As and being on summer break? That makes me happy. But it's the little things that make life joyful.
Lime green nail polish.
Volunteering to help a kid learn how to read.
Spending a sunny day by the pool. Spending a rainy night curled up in Mr. Man's arms and watching planes take off.
Waking up in the morning to sunlight streaming through the window.
Singing along to Avenue Q during long drives.
Laughing with my friends. Making friends through Twitter. And Blogger, too. :)
You know. Simple things.
How have you guys been?

I'm Using You
...for
music recommendations. :)
See, here's the thing: I'm getting so bored of my current music selection. I haven't really been introduced to anything new recently and I'm super bad at "discovering" bands on my own.
So, help a girl out?
I have pretty varied music tastes, so long as it has words and isn't screamo, hardcore gangster rap, or suuuper redneck twangy country (meaning no bango, basically). Other than that, I've open to pretty much anything.
Any chance you've got a few artists up your sleeve you could recommend? :)
(Obviously, that photo isn't mine, it's the Apple iTunes logo. In case you didn't know.)

Monday Mantra: April 12
This week I will write (like, creative writing, not blogging) every single day! :)
I believe that something exciting is coming my way soon. {Mostly because I already know it is. I just can't talk about it yet.}
I'm addicted to tank tops. Oh, glorious, glorious summertime. {Let's face it, I live in Texas. We had our week of spring and it's summer now.}
I wish I didn't have class so I could spend all day by the pool today.
I'm jealous of Mr. Man's friends that get to see him numerous times a week. There, I said it. I kind of hate them a little bit sometimes. Not really. But kind of. But I CAN handle this. :)
Soundtrack/Mantra for the Week: "She's Got You High" by Mumm-Ra.

She's got you high and you don't even know yet.
She's got you high and you don't even know yet.
The sun's in the sky, it's warming up your bare legs,
You can't deny you're looking for the sunset.
What's this about? I figured love would shine through.
We've lost romance; this world has turned so see through.
Open your mind, believe it's going to come too,
Keep romance alive and hope she's going to tell you.

Lyrics by Hand
Remember how #49 on my list of 101 things in 1001 days was start a fun/interesting blog meme?
Well, my best friend Travisstole my thunder beat me to it:
He's started Lyrics by Hand over on tumblr. Isn't he awesome?
I think Lyrics by Hand is a pretty stinkin' sweet idea, and I'll tell you why (as if you could stop me): A person's handwriting is distinctive, and so is his/her musical tastes. So by hand writing the lyrics to our favorite songs, it's quite the reflection on our personality and identity. It's all about what makes us, us. It's a bit PostSecret-like in the way it can define us, or at least a part of us.

The Regina Spektor one was my first submission! Now, you should too! Email a photo to LyricsByHand [at] tumblr [dot] com and they'll queue up! The only rules are:

- They must be handwritten.
- Attribute the song and musician
- Keep it short, no one wants to read the entire lyrics to a song they’ve never heard.
- No vulgar lyrics, please.

Jesse McCartney Concert :]
But, that’s not what I’m here to tell you about. I am here to tall you about the glory that was the Jesse McCartney concert that night.
So, I’m going to be honest. If a week ago, you would have asked me what I thought of Jesse McCartney, I would have told you he’s a pretty boy with an acceptable amount of talent, that sings a lot of pop with a few good hits, and it really only famous because of his ultra-talented father. Now I’d tell you that he’s a very pretty boy with a crazy amount of talent, who is doing awesome and original things with music, has a lot of really great honest songs, and would have been famous no matter who his family was.
Seeing him perform live was epic. That’s the only way to put it. He quite simply puts on a great show that entertains and excites. I could rave for hours, so here are few more pictures instead.
