I'm Using You

...for music recommendations. :)

See, here's the thing: I'm getting so bored of my current music selection. I haven't really been introduced to anything new recently and I'm super bad at "discovering" bands on my own.

So, help a girl out?

I have pretty varied music tastes, so long as it has words and isn't screamo, hardcore gangster rap, or suuuper redneck twangy country (meaning no bango, basically). Other than that, I've open to pretty much anything.

Any chance you've got a few artists up your sleeve you could recommend? :)

(Obviously, that photo isn't mine, it's the Apple iTunes logo. In case you didn't know.)

  1. Have you heard of Cake? One of my favorite alternative bands I discovered when I was in college 14 years ago. I like alternative, so I also like a British band called James- two of my favorite songs by them are Sit Down and Just Like Fred Astaire. The Fred Astaire one is a love song.. but not all sappy.... it's an alternative love song and the words are very sweet.

  2. First, I've found a good way to discover new music is to subscribe to the NPR All Songs Considered podcast. It's more obscure artists, but it's always a good way to find something you wouldn't have found on your own.

    As for new music:
Country/Folk: The Avett Brothers, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Bon Iver
Rock/Alt: Explosions in the Sky, Local Natives, Jonsi, LCD Soundsystem, Animal Collective

  4. Pandora.com is your friend! :)
"Wonderful" by Gary Go -I got it as a free iTunes single and I think it's on the new Disney Nature Oceans trailer. It's just... happy and I love it.
"Please Don't Go" by Barcelona -it's simply beautiful... what else do you need? lol
ERIC WHITACRE -I know no idea what you think about choral music... but Eric Whitacre is a God in our world (and the music world in general, he's done everything) I greatly suggest "Sleep," "A Boy and a Girl," and "When David Heard."
Keith Urban's DEFYING GRAVITY record is greeeaaat!!!!!!!!!!!
"Haven't Met You Yet" by Michael Buble

And that's it for now. :)
