Typical Friday Night

I've only got a few minutes to blog, but I think y'all deserve to see a slice of some of the more hilarious stories that happen in our apartment.

Stephie: These are pretty cups, where'd you get them?
Me: Target, they were only a dollar! I almost got orange ones, but then I remembered those aren't allowed in the house.
Stephie: What? Why?
Ayla: (at the top of her lungs) BLASPHEMER!

(Aggies. T-sips. Burnt orange. C'mon, you get it, right?)

Another time, we were driving by a big pile of trash in a neighborhood and had trash from Spoons in the car with us. Suddenly Ayla (who doesn't have an accent), looked at me, put on the biggest redneck accent you've ever heard IN YOUR LIFE and says,
"Can we throw our trash on thyat there pile a' shit?"

A few moments later, after getting out of the car, she looked at me and said, still with the ridiculous accent,
"Valorie, there's a toilet in thyat there pile a' shit!"

Okay, maybe you had to be there.

Long time no post

I'm sorry it's been so long since I've posted everyone, but I've been moving into my new apartment! It's been a crazy hectic week/weekend, starting on Thursday.

Thursday: There was a "party" at my place. Close to twenty people were there -- there was movie "watching" galore (we didn't finish a single one) and lots of talking and having fun. It was great to see everyone one last time before I left for TAMU, where I am now. Stupidly though, I didn't take a single picture that night.

Friday: Commence moving in extravaganza! I drove down, got here by about 4, got the key, and when Ayla and I walked in to our brand new apartment (new to us... not so new in real life) it was 95 degrees inside and looked like the picture below. Now, that's just my bedroom, but still. I didn't take a lot of before pictures because it was too hot and we wanted to get out of there and let it cool down ASAP. My parents arrived that night, Ayla and I crashed on the floor in what is now the dining room and good times were had (but not really, because it was still really hot).
Saturday: This was when the real moving in started. I had moved some stuff that was in my car in already, but that was mostly clothes. Saturday though, Kevin arrived and he and my dad unloaded my truck and the real moving in got started. Again, not many pictures were taken because my dad looked like he would kill me if I took a lot, but here's a picture of Kevin helping me finish painting my room. :] Doesn't he look so excited?
Yesterday was mostly just decorating, putting books in place, etc. So now, here are the final pictures of my bedroom/bathroom and the dining room (the living room/kitchen aren't quite done...almost there).

And there's all the pictures I have so far. Once the living room and dining room are done, I'll show you those. So, how was your weekend? Anyone else moving or doing decorating-type things?

6:50 am

Yes, that IS what time it is as I write this. I wish I could say it's because I was somewhere east of me and my body was still mentally in that time zone, but no, it's because I had crazy nightmares and my mind forced me to wake up to escape the torture of my dreams.

Unfortunately, I'm back from San Diego. This means lots of real-world-type things like work and packing to move on August 15th; the latter sounds much more exciting. I've bought some art for the walls in my bedroom and I think I'm going to start shopping for living room art soon -- Ayla has apparently decided to leave most of the decorating up to me, which while I think is a bad idea (I will have too much fun with it) I also appreciate that she trusts me with that kind of an undertaking. :] But anyways, I'm actually leaving home this Friday afternoon and start moving in at 9 am Saturday morning. That's going to be a LONG day. But there will be pictures. Oh, lots and lots of pictures. Speaking of pictures, I uploaded the ones from San Diego, CA, so go mosey on over and look at those. They're cool. :]

Quick follow-up: In my last In The News post, I talked briefly about pro-democracy voice Aung San Suu Kyi and the whole hearing thing. Well, early this morning she was convicted of violating state security laws by allowing that American into her house after she swam there. Her sentence? 18 more months of house arrest (aka: Don't take part in the 2010 elections).

Here, to tide me over to your next post (it's possible that they'll be sporadic now that I'm moving), here's a little movie trailer that I only discovered thanks to Accidentally, Kle. Enjoy!

Mod Cloth

Mod Cloth is a really random website I stumbled across earlier this week (I'm not honestly sure how I found it) and am now totally in love with. It's very modern bohemian and earthy, if you're into that sort of fashion (which I am). They have great vintage stuff, shoes, accessories, etc. This dress has quickly become my favorite... I think. They have nine pages worth of dresses (with 50 dresses per page!) so it's kind of hard to decide. But I think that one won. But, even more cool is all their cute apartment stuff. Okay, as you guys know, I'm moving into a new apartment soon so anything labeled apartment has been catching my eye recently. It's mostly accessories-type stuff like this kickass Vintage Shoe Bible, the I Am Not a Paper Towel towel set, and this really random but awesome brain-cell shaped plush toy that I seriously might get.

Other things I kind of really want:

The Wet Cats book. Uhm, cats that are wet are all sorts of hilarious.

Cat shaped ice? Count me in.

Uhm, hi pretty white boots. These are exciting, but I'd get them so dirty, so fast. The Key to the City ring. I like the idea of this -- it's super original.

(No, they did not pay me to make this post. I legitimately mean everything I said in here.)

IKEA!

Okay, so, for those of you that don't know, on August 15 I will be moving into my FIRST apartment. :) I will have my wonderful friend Ayla as my wonderful room mate so that'll be AWESOME. The reason we're talking about this is because, today, my parents and I decided that a trip to IKEA was in order because our apartment will not be furnished at all. Exciting! I love to decorate (if I didn't feel an extreme calling to international diplomacy, I swear I'd be a decorator) so this was like the most exciting day EVER for me. So, I'm going to share with you some of the stuff I picked out!

Oh, I guess I should mention that I'm kind of doing an African safari kind of theme, but not kiddie-like. It's going to be a lot of natural browns and yellows and golds in the room, with little splashes of black. I based this entirely around this comforter I found that I really really want, haha. (But only the comforter, I don't want the rest of the set.) I love giraffe print! Plus, browns really calm me down and that's what I'm definitely going to need out of my bedroom for the next five or six years, haha. To the left is the Mandal bed frame with storage boxes (which is necessary because I'm a packrat and save literally EVERYTHING). It's going to go with this super cool Mandal wallmounted headboard that I'm kind of annoyed is sold separately, but I'll survive because it's awesome! That's the awesome matching Mandal dresser that is great because it's going to bring a little black in the room, so it's necessary to match with like the giraffe and zebra prints. I wish I had a picture of it all put together so you could see all of it and not just kind of nod and smile like I know you are right now, but I don't care! I'm so excited! I also got a matching bookshelf (floor to ceiling...I have a lot of books!), a coffee table and this really cute sofa bed for the living room (you know, a futon...and no, we're not sure about the color)! Ayla is already bringing a TV stand and everything we need kitchen-wise, so it looks like we're pretty much good to move in! Now we're just waiting until August 15th... Hurry up, time! (Assuming, of course, that the world doesn't end before then.)

Anyways, I have to go because it's free slurpee day at 7/11 and I want to bank on that! Hope you guys all had wonderful Saturdays... Tell me, did you do anything interesting?
