On Hairtastrophes and Why Mall Massages SUCK

I mentioned in my Weekend Whoop! post that my Saturday was fun with a sprinkling of catastrophe, right?

Or should I say hairtastrophe?

It was awful. Traumatic. I mean, first, I couldn't catch a break with the whole masseur (male massageguyperson) that had no idea what he was doing and left me BRUISES that made Mr. Man wonder why I'd even bothered to let anyone give me a massage but him. AND PAY MONEY FOR IT, MAY I ADD? At least I can pay Mr. Man with a kiss and dinner, which I was going to make anyways... but I digress.

So, my back is still pretty sore from that. I'm pretty sure the man came close to dislocating my shoulder, too. ARMS DON'T BEND THAT WAY, DUDE. And the most insulting part? HE WAS WEARING DOCTORS' SCRUBS. You work in a MALL, dude. Seriously.

But then, THEN, I go to the hair salon where I've been going since I was ELEVEN, and the woman I normally go to had some emergency so they stuck me with this other random INTERN. You see where this is going. I AM A REGULAR CUSTOMER AND HAVE BEEN FOR EIGHT YEARS. WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?

-sigh- So, I tell her I want this cut to the left:
And I know, I KNOW, the picture isn't the most excellent quality. But you can see the length and the layering and the kind of sexy shagginess. It's pretty darn obvious! Instead, I get this bob (below). Which, while I have finally gotten to the point where I can admit it's kindofmaybe cute, IT'S MUCH SHORTER AND NOT LAYERED. (It looks like it is because I have it tucked behind my ear, but I assure you it's not.) I AM INSECURE ABOUT MY HAIR PEOPLE. I don't like it that short.

That terrible photo (in which I look angry and like I have a doublechin -- I don't) is after I restyled it. The way she styled it was poofier than I like, which made it look shorter, and also like I sort of maybe had a PERFECT SPHERE FOR A HEAD. I almost cried when I first saw it. What have I gotten myself into, I asked? I cannot tie this up in a ponytail if I'm late for class. I now look about 16. This is not okay!

I am not a fan.

Lame.

I am very sick.

This is LAME.

Mostly because Mr. Man is supposed to get here tomorrow for our Valentine's Weekend, but also because SICK = STUPID.

I know. Verbose.

I blame it on the cold medication. I totally DON'T recommend Zicam, by the way. At least not yet. Though, it does taste good. Well, as good as medicine gets, I suppose.

My oceanography test totally did not go well, as you can guess. STUPID INCONVENIENT ILLNESSES THAT RUIN MY WEEK.

Totally Awkward Tuesday

So, once again I've decided to participate in this wonderful weekly tradition Tova Darling has so awesomely begun. This week's awkward story from me is another thing that happened second semester of senior year (like the cruise story), only I didn't need to leave the country for it.

One average, non-descript Thursday, I got my wisdom teeth taken out. No big deal, the anesthesia caused it's own funny stories, but those are not for this post. Well, by Sunday afternoon, I was getting absolutely stir crazy sitting at home doing nothing but having delicious Smoothie King and watching Friends reruns. So, I put on as much makeup as gently as I could so as to not hurt the bruises on my jaw (I surprisingly wasn't at all swollen) and set out for the mall because I heard Victoria's Secret was having a sale. This proved to be a mistake.

A couple people noticed the bruises and looked at me weird, but most seemed to figure out what was wrong pretty quickly. One lady, however, had either never seen the aftermath of a wisdom teeth extraction, or was just determined to give some advice that day. So, in Victoria's Secret, she corners me and is like "Honey, you can't let him do that to you." Uhm, what? So she goes onto the spiel about how civil/marital abuse is wrong and that I can't let my boyfriend/husband abuse me and then make me buy lingerie. So, after she's done with all this and everyone around us has officially looked at us awkwardly more than once, I finally pipe up and say "Sorry, ma'am, but I'm not being abused. I got my wisdom teeth removed." A woman nearby us snorted into her drink and the woman lecturing me looked taken aback for a second. But, going along with her determination to give advice, her response was, "Honey, I know you're not ready to admit it yet, but when you are, here's a number you can call," and pressed a domestic violence 24 hotline brochure into my hands and walked away. And I was left standing there, in the middle of Victoria's Secret, totally unsure of whether or not I could play that last scene off.

Now, I would just like to say -- even though this story is awkward, and can definitely be funny, if you are experiencing domestic violence, please do make the call. The change is possible and worth it.

adventures with doctors

So, this will probably be the first of many posts titled this. Remember the MRI I mentioned a few days ago? Well, I went to my surgeon today to find out what it showed. Oh so much fun.

First, they were running 45 minutes behind because he had to do an emergency surgery on another patient. This wasn't a big deal except I wish they'd warned me so I didn't have to overhear it from someone else complaining about it. Thank God I made my appointment early so I wasn't late to work. But I'm done complaining.

After much waiting and questioning by the surgeon I was finally told that my MRI showed I have a cyst behind the patella on my right knee, a few rips in what little cartilage I have left, and some patella-femural irritation. Surgery? Not necessary yet. Physical therapy? I start next week.

Did I mention this exact thing happened to me two years ago? Same knee and everything? I guess that's just how life goes, eh?

Sweet summertime

So, it's been too long since I updated. There's been a lot going on. =]

First, finals ended on Wednesday and summer has finally begun! Finals went well -- I got an A in geology, a B in Shakespeare lit, and I haven't found out the rest of them yet. But I think they went well too. I packed up that night and came home on Thursday, which was sad. As much as I was ready to get away from school, I wasn't ready to leave all the friends there, especially Ayla (roomie for next year) and Tony (the boyfriend). I miss them so much already! But Tony is hopefully coming to visit this coming weekend, which will be exciting! =]

I'm loving summertime! I'm totally broke and have been working like crazy, but I love my job (I teach swim lessons) so it's okay. Last night I went to my best friend's prom (with a guy-friend I've known for a few years) and today I went to a Renaissance Festival about an hour away called Scarborough Faire, which was so much fun. The picture to the left is actually of us (Ryan, Cyndi, and I) in the parking lot before we went into the festival. I got a little sunburnt, but it was such a blast! I've also been catching up on all the TV I've missed -- Grey's Anatomy for the win! The season finale was absolutely crazy though! (Warning, spoilers ahead) I'm so glad that Meredith and Derek finally got married but I can't believe what's going on with George and Izzy! I mean, we've all been expecting Izzy to die because...well, she has really bad cancer. And Katherine Heigl wants to move on to movies and such (I hear she's filming with Ashton Kutcher currently). When Alex started crying in the corner though, it became suddenly much more real (as real as a fictional TV show can be, I suppose). But George?! I almost cried at the end scene with him greeting Izzy outside the elevator. He's one of my favorite characters. I hope that this isn't his way of leaving because he's still getting harassed on set about being gay (if he is?). I can't believe I have to wait until next season to know if they actually died. =[

Okay, spoilers done. On the less happy and exciting scale, I had to get an MRI on Friday. I had knee surgery two years ago and recently it's been acting up and being really swollen so my surgeon thought it would be best to check that the cyst hasn't grown back or anything. So...we'll see what comes of that.

On another note, I haven't gotten to visit my great-aunt's grave yet, unfortunately, though if Tony doesn't come for a visit this weekend, I might take a lone road trip to Arkansas in order to do so. I miss her so much. =[

I'll update again soon, I promise!
